The Sofia Mantoni Story: From Architect to Fashion Designer
When I look back at my journey, it feels like a tapestry woven with the threads of two great passions: architecture and fashion. These seemingly separate worlds have come together to shape Sofia Mantoni Fashion, and I’m thrilled to share the story behind it.
From Buenos Aires to Spokane
I was born and raised in Argentina, a country brimming with creativity and resilience. Growing up, I was captivated by the beauty of architecture. I was surrounded by artistry and craftsmanship. My father was an architect, and my mother designed wedding dresses. From a young age, I was immersed in the beauty of structure, balance, and design, whether through the intricate lines of a building plan or the delicate folds of fabric—concepts that stayed with me as I pursued a degree in architecture.
In 2013, my family and I moved to the United States, initially settling in Park City, Utah, before relocating to Spokane, Washington, in 2019. It was in Spokane that my architectural career took root, but something kept tugging at my heart. I’d always loved the idea of fashion as wearable art. It was a natural extension of my passion for structure and design, but on a personal, intimate scale.
The Birth of Sofia Mantoni Fashion
In 2019, we decided to take a leap of faith. Armed with little more than a sketchbook and a dream, we launched Sofia Mantoni Fashion. The vision was clear: to create timeless, structured designs inspired by architectural principles.
Our first collections blended clean lines, bold silhouettes, and a touch of elegance. Every piece felt like designing a building—balancing form, function, and beauty. By 2020, we'd achieved a milestone I never thought possible: presenting the work at New York Fashion Week. The energy, the applause, and the connections reaffirmed that I was on the right path.
Overcoming Challenges
Soon after, we were invited to showcase designs at Paris Fashion Week. It was a dream come true, but the pandemic had other plans. Like so many others, we faced setbacks. Our physical store in Spokane closed, and we had to rethink how to move forward. Yet, those challenges became an opportunity to reevaluate and refine our vision.
For almost four years, my family and I traveled the world. From bustling metropolises to quiet coastal towns, every place added a new layer of inspiration to the designs. In 2024, we finally found our new home: the beautiful Costa Brava, Spain.
Global Inspiration, Craftsmanship & Scalability
Relocating to Spain has been transformative. The light, the architecture, and the rich history have breathed new life into Sofia Mantoni Fashion. It’s also where I’ve embraced the value of timeless craftsmanship.
While we create unique, handcrafted pieces using techniques like crocheting, knitting, and macramé, our vision extends beyond small-batch production. We aim to scale thoughtfully, balancing artisanal methods with production processes that maintain the integrity of our designs.
The Vision Ahead
Today, Sofia Mantoni Fashion is more than just a brand; it’s a celebration of architecture, fashion, and family. As we prepare for our European relaunch in March 2025, We’re excited to share collections that are as timeless as they are modern. Designs that honor the past while embracing the future.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’ve been with us since Spokane or are discovering us for the first time, I invite you to follow along as we build something extraordinary together.
